Q: I am having to do a Uni. assignment on the negative effects that modern Japan has had on its environment including wildlife. I wanted to do Panda's but I'm not sure how many species of Asian panda there are and also I needed to know what caused them to become endangered. Please give me the answer to one or both of these questions but bear in mind that you will need to answer both for a best answer.
A: there are at least 2 types of Pandas, Giant Pandas (poster animal for endangered species) and Red Pandas. There is a sub species of the Giant Panda. All Pandas live in China and some of the Red Pandas venture into the very nearby highlands of the HHimalayas Modern Japan probably had little effect on the Panda. Modern China on the other hand could be killing them. Giant Pandas live in a few mountain ranges in central China, in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. They once lived in lowland areas, but farming, forest clearing, and other development now restrict giant pandas to the mountains. Similar story for the Red Panda. more in the links:
